Equipment used to film

The equipment we used to film is shown and listed below:

HD Video Camera - Panasonic SD700
This camera was mainly used to record the music video. As it has high quality recording. Also when we wanted to record free-hand this camera did not wobble too much which meant that we got good recording done.

Digital SLR (stills) Camera - Nikon D3000

This camera was mainly used to take pictues. for example in our music video the flashfacks of the images were taken with this camera.

Finishing editing of music video

We only had one week to edit athe video and put it together, adding effects and synchronising the videos with the music/audio. We thought that the quickest way to edit was if we split up in to two groups and edited the video clips, however because the other apple mac kept having problems us four edited the video together which was good as all of us put our views across. In process of editing I learnt how to erase parts of a frame, including how to extend the clips so each individuals frame showed. we added lighting effects and transitions between clips. On Monday, Tuesday, Wedenesday and Thursday we continuously edited our music video and also put in time after school. It was essential that we finished editing the video because on the coming Monday it was going to be shown to students, teachers and parents in an evening event in the theatre. This was good because it meant we could get feedback from a wide range of audiences and gather information on what they thought was good about it and bad about it and how they think we could improve it.

Started editing music sequences

We used Adobe Premiere to edit the videos we recorded for the our music video. Firstly we transfered the videos from the camera on to the Apple mac. We went through each individual video and decided what scenes we wanted to use taking into consideration the quality angles and movement. From there we opened the videos into Adobe Premiere.

Me and Sonya are looking at the videos to see what parts to edit

This is me telling Sonya which parts i think we should erase

Mel, Zarah, Sonya and Saira are watching Vanessas part to see that it fits in well

We started editing the classroom scene which is the first scene in the music video. In the first sequence of the video the music does not play so we had to make sure it was not too long other wise it could get the audience bored. In the first scene the four girls are sitting in the classroom drifting off into their dreams about Ally. Our main focus was showing a wide shot of the girls sitting in the classroom and then dreaming  whilst the teacher is talking. We used the shot of where the camera is following each girl individually as this focuses on how each girl is feeling at that moment. Editing this scene was pretty straight forward as there was no music to synchronise with the video.

Shooting the glamour scene

Our main idea for this scene was to book a studio that has a green screen. We got in contact with other schools and colleges but the majority did not reply. So our teacher ordered a white screen. We then decided to shoot the glamour scene in the drama room, however due to circumstances we could not shoot in their and as an alternative we shot the scene in the the theatre. After school we set-up the equipment and the girls got dressed up. There was a wide range of equipment availbale to us from the theatre which included stage space where we set up the white screen and lighting. From the music class we borrowed two microphones because we needed them as part of our sequence. We used three cameras from media, two cameras were positioned on tripods to record from different angles, one was positioned directly in front of the white screen and the second one was positioned from a side view and the third one was hand held to get other shots. It took quiet a while to set up the white screen as we had to make space and make sure the white screen was the right height and stable in one place. Before we started shooting we made sure that mege new all the steps as she missed one of the rehearsals so the four girls went over the steps to make sure they were fluent with it. As we were shooting the scene we experimented with the lighting to see how it looked. The main colours we tested with were green, purple, pink and red because these were the individual colours that represented the girls. We took a variety of shots of the girls together and indivually which took a lot of time and we finished at about 6pm after school.

Zarah is making sure the white screen is of the right height.

I am re-checking that the white screen is level.

Sir is talking to us about the equipment before we start shooting.

I am setting up the camera on the second tripod.

Saira is checking that the microphone is set-up properly.

Megi

Sonya
The girls did not where any shoes because there feet will not show in the video. However orginally they were going the wear heels but we later realised that it would not show. This made it easier for the girls because they could walk easier.

Zarah is checking what types of lighting fits in well with the shot.

Recording Vanessa in her location

Today we filmed Vanessa singing her part to the song in her location which is the Millenium point where she first met Ally. We wanted Vanessa to make the most of her location using the scenery to the best of her ability as that would fit in well with her emotional feelings about Ally. We recorded this scene in the morning as the location was quiet at that time and there was no one walking past which meant we did not get disrupted while filming. The weather was good which meant we got good shots of Vanessa as she was singing. Before recording we took test shots so Vanessa knew where to mime and how to use the scenery to go with the music, she got into her character as soon as we started recorded, this meant that it did not take long to get the right shots. To film this scene we used two handheld cameras as they were easy to move around and track Vanessa in a compact area. Me (Sarah), Sonya, Zarah and Saira all took part in recording from different angles to get shots from all around.

Photographs of flashbacks

In the music video before each girl starts singing her part of the song a photograph of each of them will be shown as a flashback showing their intimate moment with Ally. The photograph shows the locations of where each girl will be singing their part of the song. The girls will be singing in the same locations as it reminds them of Ally.

Filming classroom scene

Today we filmed the classroom scene which is the beginning and end of the music video. I filmed the beginning scene where the girls will be sitting in the classroom getting bored and drifting off into their dreams whilst the teacher is talking and the last scene when the teacher shouts at them for not paying attention and they all get back into the real world which is expressed through them jumping back when the teacher shouts, this is when Ally walks into the room. Whilst I was Filming I made sure that I got close-ups of all the girls using the camera to pan across their faces showing their boredom and expressions as they go into their dream world.

This is me setting the camera so all four girls are in the frame.

This is Saira recording the teacher whilst he is teaching the students.

This is me and Saira recording the classroom scene. My camera is placed to record the four girls directly from in front and Saira is recording from an angle to get the students and the teacher in the shot.

Classroom scene in progress

This is me and Ally filming. Ally helped us record as he did not need to be in the scene. To fill in for more students Zarah is sitting with the other pupils.

As the seen is in progress, on the left hand side shiggy has her hand up as she is going to answer a question to give the scene a sense of realism. This is done to show that other students are paying attention to what the teacher is teaching whilst the four main girls are bored and not concentrating.

These are the four girls sitting in their positions.
